It was a promising start for a unit that still needs to prove its depth and big-play ability.UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. Backup defensive end Ryan Buchholz was a force with four first-half tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and a forced fumble. Standouts included backup cornerback Amani Oruwariye with an acrobatic interception and a key, long pass breakup. When it mattered, they held the Zips to 99 total yards and only 28 on the ground.Īkron managed only seven first downs through three quarters. The Lions rotated their defense heavy from the get-go and received disciplined, impressive production across the board. Then Penn State starting defensive end and pass-rush specialist Shareef Miller went down early with some sort of lower-leg injury and didn't return. The Nittany Lions had more of a challenge than most gave them credit for.Īkron boasted a four-year starting quarterback and a former Ohio State tailback operating behind a veteran line. He was sure-handed and made good decisions in bad conditions. He averaged 31.8 yards per return on just four first-half tries. Sixty-one yards for the opening score that loosened everyone up. From there, he followed a caravan of blockers, made a nice ending cut and scored. He fielded the ball cleanly, shook off the first tackle and instinctively cut to the left side. That's a bit fearless and all good returners own it. Most important, he didn't call for a safe fair catch. Thompkins took his first return in a downpour and with the Akron coverage team bearing down. Mahon sealed of the right side to lead Barkley into a score a bit later. Shortly after, Mahon pulled on his block, teaming with tackle Ryan Bates to lead McSorley into the end zone. The middle of the line obliterated Akron and Barkley sprinted untouched on his way to the biggest play of the day. If there was any doubt, look no further than Saquon Barkley's 80-yard blitz down the left side in the second quarter. By the end of the nineteenth century, with the railway, steamship, and telegraph, society had achieved “the defeat of distance.” 5 Faster ships, better roads, newer and more abstract methods of communication: century after century the twin engines of capitalism and state formation have ground down the fundamental essence of space, the once-inescapable reality that right here and over there were very different places indeed, even when separated by only a paltry handful of miles. 4īut capitalism, as always, inevitably seeks to consume and destroy what it feeds upon. Even Pac-Man had the ghosts of all those dead astronauts to keep him company. Since Pong, few video games have leaned this far into isolation. But there are no other humans where you are. They leave much to be desired. I will admit that this seems a little nitpicky! However, because these kinds of small issues appear all throughout this title, they quickly become irritating. It also seems very odd that tricks such as a nosegrab and tailgrab are mapped to the left and right buttons in combination with the grab button, rather than the up and down buttons, seeing as the bird is grabbing the front and the back of the board. This becomes especially frustrating when you have a time limit to complete certain objectives. This led to many occasions where I got stuck and struggled to get out of a corner or move away from a wall without completely resetting to a different area in the level. ![]() ![]() It’s also very common for the camera to start going haywire! It became a frequent issue when approaching any sort of wall or obstacle. I can’t count the number of times that I tried unsuccessfully to pull off a trick or do a simple ollie! I had to mash the button multiple times before the game would register what I was trying to do. This title is riddled with issues! This makes what was supposed to be a fun and arcade-y skateboarding experience into an absolute chore! A major problem is the lack of responsiveness in the controls. Little context the OGs at my local who'd normally set up the Skate Jams are all getting on with life and I don't think setting up Jams are as high on their to do list as it used to be which is understandable, but I've not heard of anyone else at my local trying to set something up so I'd like to try and step up to that to keep the traditional yearly Skate Jam going.Check out our full video review of SkateBIRD here!
